Swim Coaches and Teachers New Zealand Incorporated (SCTNZ) is a volunteer organisation established to be leading the continued development of Swim Coaches, Swim Schools and Swim Teachers in New Zealand.

SCTNZ aims to be advocates for the profession, and we are continually developing and following world leading practices to offer best assistance to our members and the wider sector.

We believe all Kiwi’s should be experiencing qualified, highly competent swim teachers and swim coaches for their aquatic experiences including water safety, learning to swim (and swimming well) and in the sport of swimming.

Our aim as a voluntary board, is to continue to develop a sound platform for our members to be supported and continually upskilled, inspired and striving for continuous improvement in our industry

Achievements 2022-23

  • SWIMSAFER Week - a huge success, with 84 Swim Schools engaged in this new initiative. Together with the support of Water Safety NZ and Swim Coaches & Teachers Australia, this tried-and-true programme was bought to New Zealand with amazing engagement from the industry.

  • Through Swim-it-forward Givealittle page the organization was able support 426 children to become water wise and receive swimming lessons.

  • Together with Swimming NZ we have worked on ensuring that our Coaches and Teachers have worked through the Child Protection, Drugs in Sport and Good Sports modules achieving valuable revalidation points towards their individual PD.

  • SCTNZ has processed and updated its Constitution to ensure it meets the needs set down by the Incorporated Society.

  • SCTNZ has seen a growth in Membership numbers until June 2023 to 729.

  • Contracts for Clubs to utilize for Coaches, these are monitored and updated where required.

  • SCTNZ conference - held in September 2023 in Christchurch was a huge success.

  • Started discussions with professional insurance provider - we are still working with providers to ensure Site Members, Teachers and Coaches have an opportunity to valuable insurance policies.

  • Continue to encourage Coaches to engage with Swimming NZ in Event deliver. Many are now involved in the Competition Review process.

  • Renewed our partnership with Worldwide Swim Schools and Te Mahi Ako, to encourage Teacher and Coach development.
